Starting a new business is incredibly exciting, but a bit scary too. I remember years ago being completely inspired by an advertisement that was placed by in the New York Times about why 50,000 businesses choose to start up in New York each year.
50,000 new start-ups each year - but how many survive?

I wanted to be one of them. I printed out that copy of the full page advertisement and framed it in my office. I blogged about it and talked about it at every opportunity. To me, New York is and always will be the most exciting city in the world to start a business.

Competition is as hard as it gets

But it's the hardest. The competition is as hard as it gets. There is so much clutter that even if you have a good idea, its hard to get noticed. The costs are high to start a business, wages are high and you have to be ready for a lot of knock backs. 

It hasn't deterred me one bit. In fact, it is my goal to have 200 clients in New York in the next 12 months, and I hope you hold me to it! In fact, I would like to see those 200 clients supporting each other, sharing each others products and services through each of their channels, following each other on social media and pumping each other up to reach their full potential and to come out from the clutter onto the podium.

Picking the right clients is important. They need to be companies who really want to succeed and have a vision, a plan and the capability to 'making it' in New York.

Do the sums

When you do the sums, I am sure out of the number of people that have businesses in New York, we can find a mere 200. Each week, we will share with you our marketing efforts to find these 200 businesses, or 20 marketing entrepreneurs who buy a Marketing Eye licence, each with 10 clients each.

With over 2 million small businesses in New York alone and 3,760,551 workers employed by small business, we have a huge target audience. If 50,000 businesses start each year and we can connect with the 1000 of them, and find the top 200, we are in business.

Or better still, if we can find 20 marketing managers who want to own their own businesses, and are looking for work life balance and a decent continuous revenue stream of $300,000 per year plus, then we can fast track this goal.

From our perspective, we are going to put more effort into marketing. That means that you will be hearing from us more often on lots of different mediums.
