Love to me, is a two-way street. It is when each of you want to do things to please the other without compromise or question, and feel just as happy "standing still" with them, as when you are actually doing something.
But, love can make you crazy - and that is a fact. It can send you to a place that you either "fall in love with being in" or "hate with passion" or a bit of both. You will do and say things that you never imagined possible - and often will react when you know that if only you had waited a day, you would have seen it far more clearly.
According to Clinical Psychologist Frank Tallis, love is "an amalgam of seemingly incompatible and ungoverned mood swings" and shares a lot of symptoms with various forms of psychopathology, notably obsession, depression, mania and manic depression.
"When we are falling in love, we are not ourselves; our emotional centre of gravity is displaced and toppled headlong into the hands of fate."
Anything can happen - and does happen. You either keep falling in love and then get past the courtship phase or you find that there are things that doesn't work for one or both people and then you fall apart, and start the cycle all over again.
“Here's all you have to know about men and women: women are crazy, men are stupid. And the main reason women are crazy is that men are stupid.”
When I look at "falling in love" and what it does to me, I find that I lose control and for a control freak, it's not ideal. Usually I back out as fast as I throw my whole being into the mix. Love is singularly the most important thing in the world, and to find it and have it is so important to life. Some people ignore and protect themselves from love, only to find that they end up all alone and dwell on that one person who tickled their fancy when they were a child.
“Being crazy isn't enough.”
― Dr. Seuss
"The fundamental features of romantic love can be seen as evolutionary in origin; courtship rituals give women more time to evaluate the suitability of a man, while "an exclusive (or idealized) relationship is necessary for the formation of a strong pair bond."
Women and men for that matter want to take the next step but can often be hindered by fear of the uncertainty, suitability or money. The latter drives me crazy because I cannot imagine thinking that money is more important than love, but believe me, I have met a few in this category.
Now, what role does love have on this business blog? Well, love has everything to do with business. You need to love your employees, love your clients and love the product or service you provide so much so that when it does drive you crazy, you pull yourself into line and realize what is important. Don't hire employees that you don't love. Don't take on clients that you don't love and definitely don't represent in any way a brand you are not madly, deeply in love with. Why waste your time and energy on something that doesn't make you crazy with wanting to do the right thing, be the right person and together walk hand in hand into the world you work in?
“When the whole world is crazy, it doesn't pay to be sane.”
There are few sane entrepreneurs that exist. In fact, I have not met one. No matter what their bank balance is or where they are sit in the scheme of things - they are all crazy. But it is this craziness that makes them who they are and gives them the ability to be game-changers, do things differently and add value to the world we all live in.
This St Valentine's Day - fall in love with everything about your life. Don't worry if you don't have a date, because there is much to love in this wonderful world we live in.
